Visit to the Day of the Dead Location Sites

For those of you who don't know me, I'm one of the regulars on Watching Wyrd and I visit unusual locations for Wyrd News. Every other week I'll be posting photos of some of the sites I've visited. Enjoy the tours.

Previous posts dealt with the location sites from Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead with accompanying shots from the movies. You can check out the photos from Night of the Living Dead and the Dawn of the Dead (Part I) and Dawn of the Dead (Part II).

Fort Meyers, Florida

In October 2012, I was in Fort Myers, Florida, for ZombiCon 2012. One of the volunteers informed me the festival originated in Fort Myers because that was where George Romero filmed the opening sequences for Day of the Dead (1985). After I was done kicking myself for not knowing that, I decided the next morning to check out some of the locations. With the limited time I had available to research, I was only able to find a few of them. They're posted below along with the accompanying scenes from the movie.

The Edison Theater (on the corner of Hendry and Main Streets) as it appeared in Day of the Dead and how it (and me) looked in 2012.

Hordes of the living dead roaming the streets of Fort Myers (at the corner of Hendry and Main Streets; the Edison Theater is hidden from view on the corner to the right) and how it looked in 2012.

The living dead in front of the Federal Building on First Street (now the Sidney and Berne-Davis Art Center) and how it looked in 2012.
